CANTOR CHERI WEISS received Smicha/Ordination from the Academy for Jewish Religion, California in May 2018 and is currently studying for Rabbinic Ordination, which she hopes to receive in May 2020. She holds a BA in English and Theater from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT as well as Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from CSU Northridge. Cantor Weiss lived in Israel for six years, where she studied at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. 

Prior to undertaking cantorial studies, Cantor Weiss taught voice for many years both at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA as well as in her private voice studio.

Cantor Weiss is the founder and Spiritual Leader of the San Diego Outreach Synagogue, a new, independent Jewish community that offers monthly Friday night services and dinners (www.sdo-synagogue.org). She has worked at many synagogues in the San Diego, Los Angeles and Palm Springs areas and has served as High Holy Days cantor at congregations in Saratoga, CA; Houston, Texas and Providence, Rhode Island.  She has produced and performed in Jewish music concerts at many venues in San Diego.

Cantor Weiss’ passion for teaching and conducting Jewish choral music led her to found the San Diego Jewish Community Choir in July 2018.
